DIY Cat Toys

cat playing with a toy

Making your own cat toys is an excellent way to save money and keep your feline friend entertained. Many cats enjoy playing with homemade items, such as paper bags and cardboard boxes. You can also purchase simple materials such as fabric scraps, rubber bands, dowels, and pipe cleaners to make a variety of toys for your kitty.

For example, one easy toy to make is a fabric mouse. Start by cutting two circles of fabric that are two inches in diameter – you can use any type of material but fleece is especially popular with cats. Then, take the circles and stitch them together around the edges using yarn or thread so that it resembles a pillow shape. Once done, stuff the mouse with some batting or cotton balls before stitching up the remaining gap. Finally, add in some beady eyes, felt ears and a tail made from either braided cord or another piece of fabric for finsihings touches!

Another great DIY cat toy is a feather wand. All you need for this are some long feathers (goose feathers work well) and a wooden dowel rod about 12 inches long. Tie the feathers to one end of the dowel rod using twine or yarn until it’s completely covered; then cut off any excess string or feather ends. Finally tie one end of fishing wire to the other end of the dowel rod so that you have an easy way to handle it when playing with your kitty!

These are only two examples of how you can make great cat toys at home but there are plenty more possibilities: paper bag creations like scrunchies or paper balls; pipe cleaner shapes such as snakes; foam cubes filled with catnip; milk jugs filled with treats…the list goes on! Not only will making these toys give your furry feline something new to play with but it will also cost much less than buying expensive store-bought products – plus it’s fun too! So why not give making homemade cat toys a try today?
